Local Info

The neighbourhood

The cottage is located in the small, beautiful and historic Cotswolds town of Painswick where Cotswold stone buildings meet narrow roads and cobbled lanes. The town is famous for its 99 Yew trees that grow in the churchyard and the legend goes that if a 100th tree is planted the devil will prevent it from growing.

There are grocery shops and dog-friendly pubs, while a market is held every Thursday morning at the Painswick Centre. If you want to treat yourself to Afternoon Tea or a special dinner, head to The Painswick’s fine dining restaurant.

A highlight of the town is the Rococo Garden which was designed in the 1740s and is a fantastic place to wander, explore the magical follies and admire Cotswolds views. Meanwhile, other attractions including alpaca walks and jewellery workshops are sometimes available at the Painswick Centre.

There are plenty of countryside walks from Painswick and in the surrounding area. Walk up to the Painswick Beacon and observe the views of the Severn Valley or explore the Cotswold Way.

Getting around

While not essential, a car is recommended for travelling to the property and free on-street parking is available. It is also possible to reach the property by train to Stroud (about 4 miles away) and then a bus or taxi to Painswick.
